What’s the Easiest Way to Carry Your Laptop?

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Today, laptops are very much in demand. These portable computers are highly desired mainly because they can be carried from one place to another. A laptop has a variety of benefits attached to it and so it is only natural that the laptop should have a good quality bag to ensure safety. This will ensure that the laptop can be carried for a longer time with ease. Hence, a good quality laptop bag is a must have.

However, every individual will have different needs and as such, they need to purchase a laptop bag that is best suited to meet those needs. It is extremely necessary that the bag be well padded for added protection and at the same time, there should also be a wide array of extra compartments for any other related equipment. The easiest way to carry a laptop is by choosing the right laptop bag. The following are some other things that one can do to ensure safety of their laptop.

The most important thing to bear in mind is that the laptop should be able to survive any types of shocks that might result from carrying it around. Make sure that the laptop is well reinforced and securely placed in the bag so that it is not shaken during displacement.

At times, many of the cheapest bags that are available do not provide any protection. Hence, when selecting any bag, make sure that there are rigid side reinforcements and that the amount of cushioning is enough.

Another way of carrying a laptop is by making use of any neoprene skins which suit the laptop perfectly so as to provide additional protection against moisture, shocks as well as any sudden changes in heat. Also before packing a laptop in any carry bag, make sure to disconnect all the peripherals from your laptop such as USB mouse, electric cable or even an external keyboard. At the same time, when deciding to transport a laptop, do not overload the bag with other objects such as utensils, heavy books or any other hard object that might damage the laptop.

Finally, it is best t keep the laptop with oneself rather than to keep it with anyone else.

HTC’s Own ‘Nexus One’ Gets a Release Date – HTC Desire

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The new HTC Desire has now been allocated a confirmed release date as a SIM Free and unlocked HTC phone, this competitor to the mighty Google Nexus One (which is also manufactured by HTC) adds in a couple of extras over its competition.

The HTC Desire looks physically and on paper very similar to the Nexus One Google phone but HTC have added in their much loved Sense user interface found in previous models such as the HTC HD for smooth menu navigation and application organisation.

Also, the Desire will feature built-in support for Flash whilst the Android powered Google Nexus One waits for Adobe to support flash this summer. The overall features of both phones are very similar, both offering a good 5.0 mega pixel camera and vivid 3.7 inch AMOLED touch screen display.

There is also the option to capture high quality HD (high definition) video as well as watch movies on the high resolution display.

As an Android 2.1 OS phone, the same as the Nexus One the HTC Desire supports the Google Earth application as well as giving access to a huge array of new applications via the Android Market.

Other Google services include GoogleMail and GoogleTalk and also support for YouTube. There’s also support for GoogleGoggles, a neat application that lets you snap a picture with the phones camera for an instant image search on Google.

HTC are busy getting another batch of new phones ready for release alongside the Desire which include the forthcoming HTC HD Mini and HTC Legend all of which are penciled in for around the same time for launch.

The release date for the HTC Desire as a SIM Free phone is 12/04/10, there is already confirmation of a launch price of £439.99 although this is subject to change. The HTC Legend and HTC HD Mini are also due at around the same time with confirmation to follow.

The SIM Free HTC desire is a network unlocked mobile phone, this allows the Desire to be used on either pay monthly or pay as you go SIM cards from any network carrier.

The price may look expensive but remember there are no network subsidies when buying SIM Free phones, they can be used on any network and are yours to keep.

There is already talk from the networks as to who will be supporting the HTC Desire, these include confirmation from T-Mobile and Orange as well as Vodafone for releases around early to mid April.

The HTC Desire and new HTC HD Mini are two of many new phones from the manufacturer due for release in 2010.

Is Motorola Milestone Better Than Google Nexus One?

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The Motorola Milestone is the European name for the Motorola Droid which was first released in the US last year, this new Android Motorola phone has been released as a SIM Free handset with no network ties or extra ongoing line rental charges.

This initial release or the Motorola Milestone means that consumers do not have to sign up to a lengthy contract deal and be tied to one network provider, instead they can use their existing SIM card whether that be currently on a contract or the pay as you go scheme.

The user simply inserts their SIM card into the Motorola Milestone handset which will transfer all ’saved to SIM’ contact names and numbers as well as the current mobile number and provider. The SIM Free Motorola Milestone is unlocked to all network operators so any existing and ‘live’ SIM card will work.

The Milestone is the second Motorola phone to feature the Android operating system, this time however it is the newer Android 2.0 version which provides a fast user experience with 3 homescreens to place quick launch Apps. The Android Market continues to swell with new applications and although nowhere near the 150,000 claimed by the Apple store the Motorola Milestone is privvy to some 20,000 which seems to have expanded faster over the last month with the figure being closer to 15,000 in December.

The biggest Android competitor to the Milestone is Google’s new Nexus One phone, this new device device runs the slightly newer Android 2.0.1 OS although recent news stated that the Motorola Milestone will also be able to benefit with a planned upgrade very soon.

The biggest advantage over the Nexus One provided by the Milestone has to be its slide out Qwerty keyboard, this makes texting, emailing, profile updating and general text input a far faster affair with all of the characters and numbers a button push away.

Both phones feature a 5.0 mega pixel camera with autofocus but the newer Nexus One does pack a larger processor of 1GHz over the Motorola’s 550MHz which is on a par (if not a little faster) with the Apple iPhone 3Gs.

The Milestone can boast to be the slimmest Android device to feature a full slide out Qwerty keyboard, another benefit is the inclusion of the multi-direction D-Pad on the keyboard, this acts as a cursor would on a home computer or laptop and makes selecting and navigating fast and precise.

Although the Motorola Milestone has been initially released as a SIM free and unlocked mobile phone there are plans to launch the handset on the Orange network over the coming days, it is widely expected that other network launches will follow quickly with the next possibly being T-Mobile.

The Motorola Milestone has now been joined by the new Samsung Galaxy Spica with more new Android phones due for release soon, further details can be found on our website – Phones Limited.

Why Should You Buy an iPhone 3G?

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Apple is supposedly going to release its new iPhone 3G in a few days from now. Why should YOU buy it?

Here a few random thoughts on the question…..

If you use your phone mostly for calls and don’t need high speed (HSDPA) Internet on the device there is no need unless you travel to places without GSM (i.e. Japan)

With it, your connected to just about everything you need electronically no matter where you go. (Except for outlying rural areas where service may not be available). With Apple Mail, Safari, and the soon to come plethora of applications for iPhone/iPod touch, its really about mobile computing than then phone. Can you make calls with it? Sure, but if you are similar to most iPhone owners, the phone aspect of it is not used nearly as much as the other communication aspects. Bottom line, if you want to be connected 24/7, the iPhone is your best and easiest to use bet.

To be perfectly honest though …. that’s a pretty open ended question. But I’ll provide some brief context to help you answer for yourself..

To me an iPhone purchase indicates that the purchaser wants the most comprehensive feature set they can get in one package; true internet web access, contacts, calendar and a solid phone to name a few.

It also means that the owner wants a phone with flexibility going forward. Since the iPhone is software based, new functionality can be added quite easily. More compelling is the release of the Apple’s iPhone SDK this month which will add the all important Exchange server integration functionality, making the iPhone a player in corporate environments. Exchange functionality will enable push contacts, email, and calendar as well as access to GALs and use of certificates, VPN, identities and security features like auto wipe should your phone be lost or stolen.

3G is really just an increase in network speed so browsing, YouTube playing etc. will be accelerated. Most folks who already own an iPhone likely won’t feel compelled to upgrade to a 3G. However if I was in the market for new phone, I’d probably go for the iPhone.

There are two drawbacks though….

* You gotta go with AT&T as your provider. They’ve got the exclusive for the foreseeable future. Mind you, service may actually be very good …. but it is limiting.

* Like many phones today, iPhone has a camera built in but can’t currently take video. Why a robust phone from Apple …. that has a hard drive built in …. can’t take video is beyond me.

Actually considering the fact that the iPhone 3G is not out yet, answering that question is pure speculation. There is no truth yet to any specifications that the iphone will have ….. except that fact that it is 3G capable.

Honestly, from what I have heard there really aren’t any drastic improvements. Quite frankly, I can’t really see any except maybe a GPS chip ….. which will make GMM more accurate.

So …. armed with just some “preliminary” info as shared above …. your best course of action is probably to wait a week or 2 after the announcement. Let the fallout settle and the “truth” come out. THEN make a decision.

Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs – What Will Your Insurance Policy Pay When You Break a CFL Bulb?

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL)…Everybody’s singing the praises of this new technology. And for good reason…they save tons of electricity.

But what happens if one breaks inside your house or business?

My opinion is that most people will simply sweep up the mess and not give it much thought. But there is a BIG, dangerous component in a bulb called Mercury, and mercury is one of the most toxic substances known to man.

If you break a CFL bulb, you’ll likely find that the proper cleanup could be very costly. And you’ll likely find that there is NO COVERAGE in your property insurance policy. Most policies have environmental cleanup exclusions. Even if your home is damaged by a tornado, hurricane or fire, the broken bulbs could cause you to incur thousands of dollars in environmental cleanup costs that your insurance policy will EXCLUDE.

Because CFLs contain a small amount of mercury, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommends the following clean-up and disposal guidelines:(1)

1. Before Clean-up: Ventilate the Room

* Have people and pets leave the room, and don’t let anyone walk through the breakage area on their way out.

* Open a window and leave the room for 15 minutes or more.

* Shut off the central forced-air heating/air conditioning system, if you have one.

2. Clean-Up Steps for Hard Surfaces

* Carefully scoop up glass fragments and powder using stiff paper or cardboard and place them in a glass jar with metal lid (such as a canning jar) or in a sealed plastic bag.

* Use sticky tape, such as duct tape, to pick up any remaining small glass fragments and powder.

* Wipe the area clean with damp paper towels or disposable wet wipes and place them in the glass jar or plastic bag.

* Do not use a vacuum or broom to clean up the broken bulb on hard surfaces.

3. Clean-up Steps for Carpeting or Rug:

* Carefully pick up glass fragments and place them in a glass jar with metal lid (such as a canning jar) or in a sealed plastic bag.

* Use sticky tape, such as duct tape, to pick up any remaining small glass fragments and powder.

* If vacuuming is needed after all visible materials are removed, vacuum the area where the bulb was broken.

* Remove the vacuum bag (or empty and wipe the canister), and put the bag or vacuum debris in a sealed plastic bag.

4. Clean-up Steps for Clothing, Bedding, etc.:

* If clothing or bedding materials come in direct contact with broken glass or mercury-containing powder from inside the bulb that may stick to the fabric, the clothing or bedding should be discarded. Do not wash such clothing or bedding because mercury fragments in the clothing may contaminate the machine and/or pollute sewage.

* You can, however, wash clothing or other materials that have been exposed to the mercury vapor from a broken CFL, such as the clothing you happened to be wearing when you cleaned up the broken CFL, as long as that clothing has not come into direct contact with the materials from the broken bulb.

* If shoes come into direct contact with broken glass or mercury-containing powder from the bulb, wipe them off with damp paper towels or disposable wet wipes. Place the towels or wipes in a glass jar or plastic bag for disposal.

5. Disposal of Clean-up Materials

* Immediately place all cleanup materials outdoors in a trash container or protected area for the next normal trash pickup.

* Wash your hands after disposing of the jars or plastic bags containing clean-up materials.

* Check with your local or state government about disposal requirements in your specific area. Some states prohibit such trash disposal and require that broken and unbroken mercury-containing bulbs be taken to a local recycling center.

6. Future Cleaning of Carpeting or Rug: Ventilate the Room During and After Vacuuming

* The next several times you vacuum, shut off the central forced-air heating/air conditioning system and open a window prior to vacuuming.

* Keep the central heating/air conditioning system shut off and the window open for at least 15 minutes after vacuuming is completed.

Man, they are serious, aren’t they?
